First Mate

I love this. It made me smile the whole time I was doing this piece. The thought of the  little boy being a pirate, with his faithful dog as first mate.  Do kids still think this way when playing or is it all Playstation and Facebook?

Bitter Sweet

Ok, So somebody asked me the other week if I did portraits? Hummmmm, I hadn't done a portrait, as such,  since my O'levels.... Well not unless it had wings on it, as everything I do seems to ping back to children's illustrations. Yeh I know, I'm just a big kids at heart!  I think this is about as serious as it gets for me. The work is just out of this world. And I've been starring in wonder for months now. Asking myself how its achieved. I owe my inspiration to A&G for this one.   x enjoy x

Time Bug

 

This is the most time I've ever spent on a Digital painting. But to be fair its exactly the same amount of time I would have spent if I were doing this piece the old fashioned way...  I am a true Digital Art Convert. The beauty of this is there is no mess, no packing away, no worries one of the kids might throw Coke over it accidentally. And once you've done it, it can be filed away, printed off, used as a screen saver put on a tea towel or even a mug should you so desire!  I am converted.

A Challenge on last weeks Digital Whisper took us back to painting... So I thought why not! Lets go back to basics in the Digital world.  And this one has been inspired by something I 'crafted' and posted on the other blog. Some Tutu's crafted from paperstock, ribbon and generally anything laying around. I commented that It'd be great to find some Fae to fit into the tutu's, so  here she is....  Time Bug.  Shes the one that despite me spending loads of cash on getting our  collection of Antique clocks serviced they insist on stopping the day after they have been returned home and then stopping and starting and random....  Time Bug. x

A Merry go Round

I am completely addicted to Digital Whisper and Deviant Scrap at the moment. My hand and wrist is still in splint and I'm STILL waiting for an Op, but have been told its a non urgent procedure!! Whilst I'm not able to draw as holding a pen or pencil and any pressure is way too sore. I have been able to use the tablet be it left hand or the good right one.... so crafting or digital it is for the next god knows how long. x

So heres the first post!

This art journal has come about for several reasons.  I recently broke my hand & wrist so have been unable to draw. Whilst I started off trying to stay creative by researching the net, I also got to doing some housekeeping on my computer. I'd got files and files of patterns, brushes & research pictures.  So in my clearing down what no longer worked, or I no longer wanted, I also got to looking at all the research pictures I had tucked away in files. Years back when we used to take a roll of film to the chemist to be developed you'd sit and look at them then they'd be tucked away in a draw somewhere never to be seen again. The same thing seems to happen even with the technology that we have to hand now. I pool through the net for hours in preping for the next picture or commission, and save them to a newley named file. Then when the next project comes along and I pool through the net again I suddenly realise Im saving some material I already have saved.  I loosely kept journals in the past, but I came across a site for Digital Journaling. Ever wanting to be greener on this planet it seemed the perfect opportunity to sort those blasted files out once and for all. SO, instead of having research in files why not collate them onto collages, or digital scrapbooks.  I also purchased what I believe to be my book of the year - Digital Wonderland by Angi Sullins & Silas Toball.  Not only are the pictures amazing, but the tips and tutorials are mind blowingly brilliant.  With that in hand there are also several brilliant websites out there that offer a host of tutorials, 101's and downloads galore. Im hooked.

These posts are far from the usual sketches and illustrations I post on the other blog, but this is about as close as you can get to seeing inside my head. Enjoy  x
